Introduction

After losing 100 pounds in 7 months, people always ask what your “secrets” are. The only real secret to getting fit is education: the more you know about getting healthy the faster you’ll get fit and stay fit. However, with so much information out there that can be contradictory, it can be hard to figure out what is right. So I decided to share my “secrets” with anyone interested in learning what I have learned about health and fitness.

Some Background: I started my official goal to get fit on January 2, 2009 with a weight of 292 pounds at 5’ 11”, age 29. I had weighed this much through high school into college, and lost the weight for a few years in my mid-20s. I was always “chubby” or overweight throughout my life partly because my parents let me eat what I want. It didn’t help that I wasn’t athletic and didn’t know how to work out properly. When I decided to change, I had to go out there and get the information I needed.

Along the way, I stumbled over misconception, fads, and bad advice that glut the internet, airwaves, and print media about weight loss and fitness. After sifting through and synthesizing my experiences and the information out there, I put that information to use. I hope to share with you the path I followed in dropping 15 pounds a month as well as share my continuing story as I work to get into better shape.
